An Afternoon at Amnesia Brewing
A buddy and I stepped into Amnesia Brewing after spending the afternoon tuning up my bicycle. Every time I passed the place the outdoor beer garden was packed and in my effort to sample of the local breweries, I saw no reason not to enjoy some hometown brews.
After walking through the outdoor seating, the two of us saddled up for a few pints. It was late afternoon, so the empty bar consisted of...

The results are in but I won’t find out who wins A WEEK INTERNSHIP AT FULLSAIL BREWERY until Monday, October 5th.
Until then, you can vote on the videos—i.e. my video—here.

Brewing with Bacon
The last person I expected to start brewing ridiculous novelty beers was Brooklyn Brewery’s Garret Oliver. However, that does not mean his Reinschweinsgebot, that is, bacon beer, does not intrigue me.
My one question to Garret: If you’ve gone this far with the brew, why not leave the fat in the beer?
Beers of Legend wants me to brew!
You can help the cause!

The Water of Life Flows in Portland's Clear Creek...
My father came to Portland for a visit last week. While I was scrambling to create a decent itinerary of activities, I sat down with a beer and a few local papers and magazines. As I plowed through articles about Portland, scanned restaurant reviews and interrogated my friends for suggestions, I wound up killing off a few more bottles than I was planning on.
“If only my pop liked beer,” I...

Help Me Brew! Vote for This Video!
A few weeks ago I wrote about the Oregon Bounty Cuisinternship contest. Oregon Bounty was giving seven lucky individuals the opportunity to win the internship of their dreams in one of seven culinary fields. All that was required to enter was a short video as to why you need to win.
Since I moved to Portland in order to get into brewing, I obviously jumped at the chance to win a week internship at...

Brew & View. Science Style.
I spent last night at McMenamin’s Bagdad pub to sip on a few beers and drink in a whole lot of science. Every month, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) puts together Science Pub, a congregation of closet science geeks who want to drink a couple of pints while filling their heads with more than drunken debauchery. While Science Pub topics range from spider bites to volcanic...

Oktoberfest Time
After work last night I rode over to the Widmer Brothers Brewery for their fifth annual Oktoberfest. There are nothing like sausages and oompha bands after a hard day’s work!
Since this is my first Oktoberfest season in Portland, I was a bit unsure of what to expect. However, Portland is supposed to be Beervana so my hopes were high. Widmer decked out their lot with tons of food venders,...

Spit It Up, Drink It Down
A friend of mine back in NY sent me this article about Sam Calagione of Dogfish head’s newest test brews—chicha.
I’ve seen Dogfish Head brews lying around a few bars here in Oregon, but the brewery isn’t as hyped in the west coast. Known for interesting and increasingly, archaic styled beers, Calagione’s newest concept calls for twenty-pounds of regurgitated corn.
Thirsty?
I’m always...

Breakfast Beers Mixed with Hope
I woke up this morning around 6:30 in order to put together a little video. After hearing my woeful tales of the lack of an entry-level brewery positions in Oregon, a friend of mine sent me a link to this contest; I could be the winner of a one-week internship at a delicious, Oregon based Brewery!
Hopefully the fine folks at Full Sail Brewery—the only employee owned brewery in the country—will...

Green Eggs and Portland
I haven’t been out to paint the town red yet—due to lack of funds—but I have been able to sample some of the delicious local goodies in Portland.
While I was inquiring about the abundance of Portlanders who keep live chickens in their yards the other day, I found out the a buddy of mine who I play music with actually keeps chickens himself. After repeatedly demanding he supply me with the fruits...
