About three years ago I discovered an ongoing debate between natives of Buffalo, NY: Anchor Bar or Duff’s?
When I first started questioning Buffalonians about Anchor Bar, the birthplace of the chicken wing, I was surprised to hear from several that they weren’t a fan. Many told me they went elsewhere to get their fix of saucy, fried drumsticks.
“Duff’s.”
It was a single word I heard over and over again; they weren’t the first to create the treat, but they definitely fried a better wing.
After coming to the conclusion that when I finally made it to Buffalo I would go straight to Duff’s, I met a few locals who stood by Anchor Bar.
“Duff’s drowns them in sauce. Anchor is way better,” a couple in their mid-forties who grew up in the wing region told me. Perplexed, I began asking others.
The more people I questioned the more confused I became so I determined that I would settle the debate for myself. For the next three days, I will be in Buffalo, NY to personally sample the wings from both establishments and see who truly makes a better buffalo wing. Anchor Bar versus Duff’s, the debate ends here.
