Life in Portland has been grand so far. I’ve been fortunate enough to find a job and although I’m still a long way from sampling all thirty-five breweries in the metro area, I’ve been indulging my palate when the chance presents itself.
In my opinion, one of the best parts of the city is the surplus of delicious brews. One happy little side effect of this tasty issue is the amount of folks who enjoy creating a few sudsy concoctions of their own. I happened to befriend one such fellow—a former New Yorker at that—and last night I immersed myself in something I haven’t done for two years: homebrewing.
That’s right. In a few weeks I’ll be able to sip on the fruits of my labor and drink some (hopefully) delicious session-worthy pale ales. We’ll be brewing batch two in a week so in the meantime I’ll be doing some recipe research.
In the meantime, however, I have some work to do. I’ve been enlisted to help chose the taps we pour at work and since the previous kegs are almost kicked, I must test the plethora of Pacific NW winter seasonals.
I’ve got some tough work ahead.
